You and Me:
The future of reading

"The Future of Reading" is a motion/communication project first-year Design grads do near the end of the first semester at Carnegie Mellon. Students are asked to research the act of reading over time and to narrow the topic further into a scope of her or his interest. Based on the research from this subset, he or she makes a film exhibiting a perception (personal or general or both) of how reading will be in the future.

Two core elements shaped the trajectory of my project: 1) I've always been a writer in many formats, physical and emotional, and 2) I had recently become enamored with the experience-obsessed theories of John Dewey. Thus, I ignored examining the future of reading as a format but as a continuation of the storytelling experience.

My research primarily concentrated on studies of oral tradition and its evolution throughout culture and time. I equated oral tradition to a holistic storytelling experience (fantastic interaction design), and called for maintenance of story content and depth.

Web sites are my fave. I follow a routine of including the client in the brainstorming and ideating process (no surprises). Ask me more about my Web design process, because I love to talking about it.
